Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi at a meeting with reporters expressed his views on the obstacle facing adoption of the Law for Use of Languages that, following President Gjorge Ivanov's refusal to decree it, has returned to parliament.
Chief Parliamentary Xhaferi stressed that” the decision on the amendments does not have a genuine goal, but is based solely on opposition statements that it would undermine the adoption of the constitution1> law.
“The law has a total of eight pages of about 40,000 words, while there are 35 000 amendments, referring to the insinuity of the forger, while only Article 22, which speaks of fines, there are 33834 amendments introduced”, Xhaferi stressed.
On the basis of parliamentary procedures, the law must be adopted within a 30-day deadline, informing that some 17 thousand amendments have been translated so far, which further complicates the situation.
Under this law, it is predicted that in all state organs of the country, besides Macedonian language and writing, the official language is also the language spoken by 20 percent of Macedonia's citizens and its writing, in this case the Albanian language.
