The European Union has failed to complete its two projects, launched in August 2016, for which it has invested over 3.5m euros, as the North Mitrovica municipal structures do not allow the completion of operations in the reconstruction of the bridge and construction of the pedestrian zone in the northern part of the bridge.
It has been a year since Frederica Moghrin, the chief of European diplomacy, had arrived in Mitrovica to open the vehicle and human flow bridge, but because of objections by Serbian municipality authorities in North Mitrovica the project for opening the bridge had not been revived, “Zri” writes.
The EU has invested in two projects in Mitrovica in parallel for the revising of the main 1.45m-euro bridge of Ibrit and for the construction of the pedestrian zone north of the bridge, on the “King Peter I”, 2.13m euros.
While the first project, as far as the southern part is concerned, has been completed, works on the second project have been completely suspended due to the construction of North Mitrovica Chairman Goran Rakic.
