Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, has claimed that the anti-corruption fighter in Russia, Alexei Navalny, has been supported by the United States for its intention of participating in presidential elections.
These comments, for which he has not presented any evidence, Mr. Putin made yesterday during a meeting with editors and executive chiefs of several Russian media companies.
Alexei Navalnyt, a charismatic activist who conducts campaign for rooting out government corruption in Russia, is not allowed to participate in Russian presidential elections on March 18th, due to a parole sentence.
He and his supporters say the decision was politically motivated.
The United States and the European Union have condemned the decision not to allow the run for presidential elections.
