Education Minister Shyqih Bytyqi is clear that some of the public universities will be degraded at schools and campuses. He also mentioned programs that should not have all public universities. It is considered that there should be no law and economics faculties at all these universities.
We don't need the same programs that Pristina University has at any public university. Every public university has the Jurydical Faculty, the Economic Faculty, the framework for which Kosovo has no absence of”, Bytyqi has said of the Word Gazette.
The current government has launched a process of assessing public universities. It has been warned that this initiative is being made to see if there are so many public universities necessary. It is said that the chances are to remain only two Universities -- of Pristina and Prizren. To degrade Mitrovica's Ferizaj, Gjakova, Peja and Gjilan.
Data concerning this process is expected to be released at the end of this month.
The “Commission for Quality Rating and Perseverance will appear in a report on the state of these universities within 10 days, or by the end of the month”, the education minister has warned.
The head of education in Kosovo says that prior to the establishment of these universities there has not been a preliminary analysis of whether Kosovo needs all these universities, and what programmes the regions where they are opening up need.
