Which lawyers are interested in the Special Court?

In a response given to Radio Kosovo, the Special Court Information Office has declined to reveal more details, but has said the accession process on the Protection List is a process without deadlines.

A document known as the “Directory for Protectors” adopted in November last year, by the Special Court, has made all lawyers planning to work for any suspects, charges or victims should be licensed once again by the Special Court.

In a response to Radio Kosovo, the Special Court's Media Office has said they have received a number of requests from lawyers of various states.

So far, Kosovo's “Defence Office and the Department of Members of Victims and Specialised Chambers have received a number of requests from lawyers from various states. At the moment we cannot provide concrete information because the selection process is under way. But the Defense List will appear on our website at a later stage, “is their response.

They have said that the “accession process on the Protection List is an open process, with no deadline set for submitting requests. ”

Based on “Direct for Fair Protection” to be part of the list of defenders have all lawyers who have at least ten years of experience witnessed in the area of local or international law and criminal procedure.

To be a defence attorney, they must have at least seven years of experience, while admission to the victims' Protection List includes at least five years of work experience witnessed in cases of victimial criminal cases.

As field experts report, defendants and victims will have the right to select lawyers only on the basis of the list. And only then will the court authorize those lawyers to protect the accused or the victims. The sides will have no right to propose or appoint their lawyers there.

In July last year, Specialised Chambers have been functional, but the specialised Prosecution has so far filed no charges.
