After a marathon meeting of nearly 24 hours, the agreement was announced. Chancellor Merkel remains in the post.
Leaders of conservative Union parties CDU/ CSU Angela Merkel and Horst Seehofer, as well as Social Democrats, SPD, Martin Schulz, as German news agencies report, have reached agreement during a meeting of nearly 24 hours to continue the German-based ruling coalition.
Party representatives have drafted a 28-page document, after agreeing during these talks at the highest level, say nearby circles with negotiators. Angela Merkel, Horst Seehofer and Martin Schulz will present this agreement to reporters during the day.
Final talks between these parties on continuing the coalition, which is still in power, have started a week ago. During the talks there have been disagreements and tensions on many issues: refugees, the economy, finances... but they are said to have harmonised. During the day more will be known about the agreements reached. This agreement should also be approved by party bodies, which will be introduced into the coalition.
