With the national motto “united we are strong”, it is expected that the Bulgarian presidency will focus on uniting the union on reform of migraine policies and other issues. EU leaders agreed last December to find a compromise agreement on how to reform the asylum system in the union.
Bulgaria also aims at the prospect of EU membership of its neighbours in the Western Balkans. On 17 May, EU leaders will meet with their Balkan counterparts for a summit in Sofia. When we talk about a united Europe, we should not forget that the Western Balkans need a clear European perspective and ties between them and member countries”, the Bulgarian presidency website says. Bulgaria took over the rotating presidency from Estonia and will hand over Austria.
