A person suspected of a series of women's murders and rapes has been arrested by police in the Russian town of Ekaterinburg.
Crime has occurred for a period of 22 years.
The news was published Monday by Russia's Interior Ministry, which said the suspect is from an Ekaterinburg country born in 1970. He has been arrested for a series of murders and rapes from 1992 to 2014 in various parts of the city.
To capture the suspect, about 17,000 people were questioned over the past eight years. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the accused may have committed other crimes.
The attacker's typical approach was the theft and rape of his victims, threatening them with murder, Ekaterinburg investigators said. Most of the attacks occurred near road bridges.
Investigators of the first incident could set dates since 1992, when a teenage girl was raped. Not specified how many attacks the detainee has committed.
Thousands of witnesses, DNA samples and various forensic tests helped the investigation eventually create an identical image of the suspect.
