The United Nations, on the other hand, announced about 40,000 Ringya Muslims who have crossed the border from Burma to Bangladesh.

Violence has erupted after the Ringya rebels attacked several police stations last Friday, further boosting the Burmese Army's response.

The military says it is conducting clean-up operations against the extremist <x0-terrorists” and that security forces are being instructed to protect civilians.

But Muslims who have fled to Bangladesh say they have been forced to leave because of murder and arson.

Rebellizers Roggya first appeared in October 2016 when they carried out similar attacks on the police.

Even then there was mass Muslim escape.

Treating 1.1 million Muslims is the biggest challenge facing national leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Some Western critics say Suu Kyi has not supported this minority, which for a long time complains of persecution.
