Northern Iraq authorities have decided to hold the referendum on declaring the independence of this area from Baghdad, prompting a lot of opposition in the region, where Turkey, but also Iraq itself, are determined to stop it even by force.
Today, Turkey's Assembly is expected to pass a resolution allowing the government to engage in military operations even outside the territorial borders of the state, targeting northern Iraq.
On the other hand, Northern Iraq's leader, Mesud Barzani, the son of the renowned Kurdish nationalist Mustafa Barzani, said of the Voice of America that they would not withdraw from this road even if the tâta knew that death awaited her at the end.
This strong statement has further heated blood, at a time when Turkey, as well as the Iraqi government in Baghdad itself, does not rule out military intervention, writes Albeu.com.
Even the chiefs of staff of the two states are consulting today in Ankara.
While there are two armies threatening to hold this referendum in northern Iraq, Turkey and Iraq itself, the North Iraqi Kurdish forces focus precisely on Pesmerga.
Who Are the Pesmers?
“Peshmerga” (Translating: Those facing death are military formations dating back to 1800, which were then organised at the case for the protection of border zones.
With the rise of Kurdish nationalism, they have been organized into real military formations, and today they number about 190 thousand soldiers and real equipment for an army.
Weightmakers play a key role in leaving I SIS from northern Iraq while official Iraqi forces left weapons and handed the bases to terrorists.
The Pesmerga forces have girls in their composition and operate as a regular army.
Recently, they have been supplied with modern weapons and armoured vehicles from the United States, with which they have been working early since the Gulf War I.
In 2015, The U.S. offered $500m military logistics to this military formation, supporting it in the fight against SISI.
And in the fight against I SIS, the Pesmerga have claimed a large number of oil fields, significantly improving their income.
The situation seems very tense in the area, as there are at least four states directly affected by the independence of a majority ethnic Kurdish state. These are: Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria.
An independent Kurdish in northern Iraq would encourage other Kurds in these countries to unite by establishing a state of more than 15 million people in this very hot and highly oil-rich Middle East area.
Looks like it's time for the Middle East to come back. The results remain to be seen.
