US President Donald Trump, accompanied by Melanie's wife, visited Texas for the second time that after the hurricane passed “Harvey” and this time, in the focus of his stop, there were flood victims.
They visited Houston, where they met flood survivors and volunteers to follow up with Lake Carls in Louisiana. Earlier, Trump had declared Saturday a national prayer day for the victims of Hurricane “Hrvey”.
Hurricane, affected the land of this country a week ago by causing devastating floods. Some residents are allowed to return to their homes, but flood waters continue to rise in some areas.
“Hrvey” has claimed the life of 47 people so far and another 43 thousand stay in temporary centres. Trump has asked Congress for $7.8 billion, which will be an initial payment to help recovery efforts in Texas and Louisiana.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already said that the state will need more than $125 billion in aid.
President Trump and wife Melanie visited Texas earlier this week, but they did not approach the disaster area, saying they did not want to divert resources from rescue efforts. However, the president was criticised for not meeting with flood victims, and that he focused mainly on government response statistics.
