14 ARSYET FOR TA V CONDITIONAL
Well, Kosovo cannot be the first destination you think about on vacation because of its past and its location in the middle of the Balkans. However, you should not be quick enough to remove Kosovo as a travel destination because there is much to offer its visitors!
This is something I learned and experienced when I first visited Kosovo. Nature is beautiful, people are friendly, prices are free, and the fact that it's quite unexplored makes it much more exciting to explore!
Hopefully you too will discover Kosovo's beauty, and here are 14 reasons why you have to visit Kosovo!
Wonderful, Friendly People
The people of Kosovo are hospitable, friendly and very talkative. Don't be surprised if a stranger comes to you and starts talking. In many countries, this would be very dishonest, but here in Kosovo, this is due to the curiosity of where it came from and why you are visiting Kosovo (in a good way).
Most of your younger generation speak English very well, and you will have no difficulty talking to them. Some of the older generation cannot speak more than a few English words, but if you get to know Italian or German, besides Albanian, they can also know those two languages.
Beautiful Nature
The village is another special thing for Kosovo. You see cows and goats walking freely around the landscapes and they look really happy. Another thing you will be impressed with is the natural beauty you can find throughout the country from mountains to lakes and waterfalls.
Hiking is certainly one of the best things to do in Kosovo, and you can do it yourself or together with one of the many available tourist guidelines.
It's too cheap
While prices are rising in Europe in general, especially in the most crowded tourist destinations, it is certain to say that Kosovo is one of the cheapest countries in Europe and you can have a full meal for less than $3.
A New Growing Country
Since the past certainly has some dark points of war and other problems, I think things are getting better. There's an optimistic feeling every time you talk to locals, and the general feeling is that Kosovo is looking towards a brighter future!
And maybe there will be more tourists after they find out what a wonderful place it is.
History and Culture
The Kosovo area has been inhabited for thousands of years. Several empires and peoples have moved to these lands, and during the journey you can see parts of different periods throughout the country.
They have a strong culture and identity and you can show that Kosovars are proud of their heritage. When others talk about history and Kosovo, the first thought is often Kosovo's terrible war, but there are many more stories to find out!
Tasty Food
Like other Balkan countries eat lots of meat, so you will find all Balkan classics. But if there is a Kosovo food you should try, then it should be Flija. Here is a video to see more about how this unique food is made!
To be honest, I haven't tried many other local foods, just a few, but they were just delicious and the amount of food served was very much. We've been eating a lot of kebabs and burks during our stay.
Some of the interesting places to visit Kosovo
Go where? Here are some of the places I think everybody should visit! I'm sure there's more, but it'll be a good start.
Prizren
I think it's one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the Balkans. Much like Mostar, although Prizren definitely has its own grace and character. It is easily accessible by Albania or Skopje in Macedonia.
We took a bus from Tirana and arrived a few hours later. It's a live town filled with cafes, restaurants and beautiful mosques. Do not lose your climb to the fortress and enjoy impressive views on Prizren!
Rugova
If you like to spend time in nature, then you have to put Rugova on your list! There are many lakes, mountains, trails, canyons, and throats. Just look at the picture below and you'll see why you have to go there.
Pristina
The capital is also the largest city with a population of about 210,000. Here you will find numerous bars and restaurants, as well as some cold buildings and landmarks.
Another classic is to make it like a tourist... with the big statue of Bill Clinton, which is a sign of respect and admiration for the former president.
I Blooded
Situated between the towns of Peja and Prizren, Gjakova is an interesting stop. The city was badly damaged during the war in Kosovo, but has been rebuilt and again serves as one of the cultural and educational centres.
Some interesting points include the Old Bazaar, the Hadum Mosque, the Church of St. Paul and St. Peter and the Clock Tower.
Peja
Another old town in Kosovo with many beautiful buildings and cultures, as well as its surroundings. Because of the diversity of activities, there is also a growing tourism industry in Pec.
The Mountains of Sharr
Another amazing mountain range in Kosovo. That verse is located east of Prizren on the border with Macedonia. Here they cut out lakes, shepherds, and breathless images. If you want a walk and a nature, the Sharr Mountains are a necessary place to visit when you visit Kosovo!
White Drini Falls
An amazing 25 - foot - high [25 m] waterfall rises. Situated on Mount Dleb in Prokletije in the village of Radavac, 11km from the town of Peja.
Germ Park
In the northeast part of Pristina, you will find the natural pearl called Germ Park. I'd suggest you go on weekends, though, weekends this place fills people up!
