But divisions have already emerged among AfD leaders in the direction of the party.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has been re-elected to a fourth term, but her conservative bloc CDU/ CSU has got the worst score in the last 70 years.
Merkel is starting negotiations to form a new coalition government.
Her bloc's current coalition partners, the Social Democrats (SPD), say they will go to the opposition after historic defeat.
The AfD campaign was capitalised against Merkel's decision to open Germany's borders for undocumented immigrants and refugees in 2015, mainly from the Middle East.
Its success has shaken Germany's political creation, and protests against the anti-Islamic party have been held in several cities after the election results.
“One million people, foreigners, who behave in this country are taking a piece of this place and we as AfD do not want this to happen, Gauland said at a press conference Monday.
“We say we don't want to lose Germany in an invasion by foreigners of another” culture, he added.
He said the AFD (Alternative for Germany), which is expected to take 94 seats in the 709-seat federal parliament as long as there is a total of German legislation.
But the dispute is already evident in the AfD '%s' party with another Frauke Petry leader, declaring at the same press conference that she would not join the AfDić parliamentary group despite winning a country./Periscopi/
