A group of people Saturday held a protest in Germany's capital, Berlin, to protest the recent violence in the state of Rakhine in Myanmar, the Anadolu Agency (AA) reports.
Meeting in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Berlin, protesters carried banners containing “Stop the genocide in Myanmar” and “We are all people” in English and German.
During the protest, organised by a Turkish NGO, the Turkish Community of Berlin and supported by several other NGOs in Berlin, a press release was read, saying Muslims Ringya in Myanmar live under government pressure and in inhumane conditions.
Stressing that the Rohingya people are alone, protesters sought help for Muslims suffering there.
Violence in the state of Rakhine of Myanmar erupted on August 25th, when the country's security forces launched an operation against the Muslim community Ringya. It sparked a new influx of refugees towards neighboring Bangladesh, even though the country closed its border for refugees.
Media reports said Myanmar's security forces used disproportionate force, moving thousands of Roingya villagers and destroying their homes with mortars and machine guns.
The region was involved in tensions between the Buddhist and Muslim population since the outbreak of violence in 2012.
The UN documented rapes, murders, including that of infants and young children, brutal beatings and disappearances. Rohingya representatives stressed that about 400 people were killed during the operation.
