A severe earthquake has hit central Mexico, killing at least 226 people and destroying dozens of buildings in the capital, Mexico City.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has declared that more than 20 children were killed and 30 others lost as a result of the collapse of a school.
Earthquake 7.1 magnitude also caused major damage to neighbouring states.
The seismic swing struck just hours after many people participated in preparations throughout the nation to mark the anniversary of another devastating earthquake that caused thousands of deaths in Mexico City in 1985.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, an earthquake of 8.1 magnitude struck Mexico, causing the death of at least 90 people.
The death of 226 people was confirmed on Twitter by the country's national civil protection co-ordinator.
