A few days before Barack Obama left the White House, incumbent President Donald Trump was reportedly leaving a letter to him.
This letter is back in traditional action that American presidents leave to their followers at the Oval Office, writes Huffington Post, broadcast Koha.net.
Trump said, however, that he would not open this letter, nor will he, for the media, make it public.
But during yesterday, this letter was made public by Trump.
Obama's letter to Trump:
Congratulations on this extraordinary step. Millions of people have put their hopes on you, and all of us, regardless of the party, should hope for expansion and security during your stay here.
This is a unique office, without a clear plan for success, so I don't know if any advice from me would be useful to you. However, let me give you some reflections for the last eight years.
First, you and I have been blessed in various ways with a great and good fortune. Not everyone's so lucky. We have to do everything we can to build more success for every child and family who is willing to work hard here.
Second, the American leadership in this world is really necessary. It is up to us, through action and example, to support the international order that has continued to expand since the end of the Cold War and upon which our wealth and security depend.
Third, we are just temporary residents of this office. This makes us keepers of those democratic institutions and traditions, such as rule of law, power sharing, equal protection and civil liberties, which our ancestors fought. Despite the delay and attraction of daily politics, we must leave those instruments of our democracy at least as strong as we found them.
Finally, make time for events and responsibilities for your friends and family.
Michelle and I wish you and Melanie all the best in starting your wonderful adventure, and know that we are willing to help you in any way.
Good luck,
BO
