In Dominica, 15 people were killed in Puerto Rico six, Haiti three, one on Guadalupe Island, and two in Dominican Republic. Haitian officials said the Maria storm hit the country's northern areas.
They stressed that two people in the Cornillo area lost their lives as a result of the lightning strike, and a person lost his life in an effort to cross the river.
The hurricane caused increased river levels in the Dominican Republic, where many bridges and roads have been damaged. Also, about 300 thousand homes are out of electricity.
Officials say about 110 thousand houses across the country are underwater, and that at least 18,500 people have been evacuated.
