On October 1st, circulation on train lines in Kosovo -- even in part -- is expected to resume, officials in the Ministry of Infrastructure confirm.
Rounding Trains on Regular Lines was aborted As of August 2nd.
Cutting off these lines is due to a lack of financial means, which has had to be secured by the Government of Kosovo.
Silver ZeynepChief of the Ministry of Infrastructure's cabinet, Pal Lekaj, has told Radio Free Europe that the minister has had a meeting with members of the “board. Infracos” and “Trainos” and has promised that the launch of the train flow will begin in October.
“Minister Lekaj has promised that on 1 October, trains will be in place for transportation of travellers, goods and other services”, Zeynep said.
Meanwhile, Gelor Shala, chief executive of “Trainos”, this company responsible for train operations both in transport of goods and travellers, told Radio Free Europe that this institution needs about 1.3m euros to release all train lines.
“We've had a meeting with New Infrastructure Minister Pal Lekaj. The minister has promised that soon trains will be issued and has promised that trains will be released early next month.”.
“And as for the governor's budget, he could not pay a due portion. He promised to discuss with the prime minister as well as the government, so this issue will be discussed and very soon said there will be a solution.”, Shala said.
On the other hand, Silver Zamenaj, says that because of the inability to review the state budget, there is still no known separation, but concrete movement in this direction will be in order to release trains in circulation.
“We'll share a lot of tools, maybe not the amount demanded by Traincos and Infrakos, but the necessary tools will be separated to function trains. So there will be concrete moves, on October 1st the train will be on the move”, Zeynep said.
While Gelor Shala says it depends on the amount of separate means to determine which lines will be released for circulation.
“We have 10 train lines and unless the budget is fully secured around 1. 3m euros, of course, on budget will determine which lines will be issued for operation”.
Otherwise, railway infrastructure in Kosovo continues to face a poor situation.
Binaris, plant buildings, signal stabilizers, then railway operations, locomotives, passenger carriages, since field experts are considered outdated.
Kosovo is now involved in projects to modernise the railway, investments that enter the package for approved investments at the Western Balkans summit in August 2015 in Vienna, within the framework of the European Union's broader agenda for promoting connection to the region and to the EU.
