A deaf man was killed with firearms by Oklahoma City police officers as he approached them holding a metal tube in his hand.
The two officers had not heard the neighbors screaming “ai couldn't hear you hear” before they opened fire, police captain Bo Mathews said.
Magdiel Sanchez, 35-year-old, was fatally shot Tuesday evening while police were investigating one case when one person had hit another by car and fled the scene.
This incident is now being investigated by city detectives to see if the murder was legally justified.
The 60 - inch - long [60 cm] metal rod, which Sanchez was holding in his hand while sitting near the entrance of the house, was originally described as a stick to the officers.
Neighbors say that Sanchez, who was not blind, used the tube and his hands to communicate and to protect himself from stray dogs near his home where Father lived.
Sanchez's father, who is the police - driven driver, has later confirmed that his son was deaf.
Police say the victim had no criminal history.
