Sulejman Elban, governor of the province of Agri, visited the site Tuesday where the work is being done along with a local police chief and commander of the gendarmerie before meeting with the zone border guards, news agency “Dogan” reported.
The 2m-wide, 3m-wide obstacle is being built by portable blocks and aims to boost Turkey's security by keeping smugglers and preventing the invasion by Kurdish militants.
Turkey claims the banned Kurdish movement (PKK), which was involved in a continuing conflict with the government, has bases and camps on the border with Iran, reported “Russia Today”, the Periscopi broadcast.
Iran's state is also a known source of drug trafficking and other smuggling that runs through Turkey to Europe.
Relations between Turkey and Iran have been damaged since the beginning of the 2011 Arab Spring and the Syrian civil war, where Tehran supports President Bashar Assad, while Ankara has demanded that he be fired./Periscopi/
