On Monday, August 21st, for the first time in 99 years, the entire United States will experience a complete solar eclipse, so emotions have swept the whole country.
Experts advise people to use special protective lens to view the eclipse, but as we will learn in the following material, their finding is becoming very difficult.
After waiting in traffic near the Lagunita brewery for hours, Sarah McKnight was disappointed.
It had traveled over 100 miles [160 km], not for beer, but something that has become impossible to find anywhere in the Midwest region of the United States, protective lens, especially to see the full eclipse of the sun on August 21st.
“As soon as we arrived, they were saying there was no lens”, McKnight says.
The most wanted thing right now is a piece of carton with very specific lens that allows you to look at the sun during eclipse” says Sarah Cole.
Sarah Cole is deputy head of Chicago's “Adler Planetarium”, sponsoring the free-gave lens activity at Laguitas Powery. It was scheduled to begin distributing a thousand lens at 12:30.
But people began to line up at 4: 00 a.m., and because of the demand, the lens was started earlier, so many people ended up hand jobs:
The request is extremely high. We have made great efforts to try to give as many of them as possible. And I think that we couldn't have predicted some of the challenges that came up with efforts to respond to demand” says Cole.
This was the last time that “Adler Planetarium” provided free lens before the 21 August eclipse. Mrs. Cole says over 250,000 solar lens has been distributed.
We thought a quarter of a million would suffice, given that people would have other ways to make sure... ”
The demand has created a lucrative Internet market for special lens, one of the only other ways, besides giving free from “Adler Planetarium”.
There's no more access to stores, and there's not much chance of providing”.
However, they are necessary to see the eclipse:
It's very important that people not look towards the sun without this kind of protection” adds Mrs. Cole.
That means that if Sarah McKnight can't find them before the eclipse, she and her boys will miss a chance that comes once in a lifetime.
It looks like we're looking for a golden ticket. Everywhere they've been sold, people say c'mon! But there must be some lens left for us, right? Somewhere we can find it.
“Adler Planetarium” has several more... specifically to give during the activity organized there to see the solar eclipse. /Okéu. com/
