The number of children exploited as suicide bombers by the Boko Haram terrorist group has fourfold in one year, the United Nations Children's Foundation (UNICEF) said.
“Since the beginning of the year, 83 children have been exploited as human beings in northeastern Nigeria”, says the U report. NICEF.
Fifty-five of them were girls, mostly younger than 15, 27 were boys, and one was a baby tied to a girl, added U n NICEF.
By comparison, about 20 children have been used as suicide bombers throughout the past year.
The dramatic increase in their numbers occurs at the time of a massive hunger and the crisis of shift to northeastern Nigeria.
About 1.7 million people have been displaced from the ongoing attacks by Boko Haram in the region.
The United Nations has warned that some 450,000 children are at risk of malnutrition this year.
Boko Haram, who is called at a strict interpretation of Sheriat Law, has killed over 20,000 people in Nigeria and in neighboring countries: Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
