Thailand's former prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, fled before the trial for stealing billions of dollars from the rice subsidy.
“BBC” suggests she has fled to one of the world's richest cities in Dubai.
Sources close to her party said she made the decision to leave unexpectedly, shortly before the trial was held in Bangkok.
Shinawatra did not appear at the Supreme Court, prompting judges to issue an arrest warrant for him.
Her lawyers said she could not attend because “was sick”. But the court rejected this argument and postponed the trial for September 27th.
Former Prime Minister Shinawatra has denied any charges concerning the scheme it cost Thailand billions of dollars.
But if convicted, she could be imprisoned for up to 10 years and be expelled from politics forever.
