A mysterious, elusive Amazon monkey has been seen in nature for the first time in about 80 years. “Saki Vanzolin” with a black face, has black hair and distinct legs. It is first in 1938.
A team that undertook an expedition into Brazil's tropical forests in 1956 met only dead monkeys.
Laura Marsh, director of the Global Conservation Institute, was the first to see one live in eight decades during a recent trip.
“expert Saki” told National Geographic: “I was trembling and so excited that I could barely get a look. ”
Dr Marsh organised its team “Amazon” to document biodiversity in the region near the border of Brazil and Peru, but with a particular focus he found the rare monkey.
The animal stood out among trees on four feet. In the absence of the usual tail of other monkeys, it moves more like a cat, said Dr. Marsh.
