Mr. Pence in the city of Carthage last night was hosted by Columbia leader Juan Manuel Santos.
The American top official's tour of Central and South America is taking place in the period after US President Donald Trump, two days ago, said he did not rule out “military option” in response to the political crisis in Venezuela.
Colombia's foreign ministry has condemned Trump's statement, stressing that it opposes any military measures.
During a press conference, Mr. Santos said he told Vice President Pence that the United States should not think of any military action in Venezuela.
While friends should tell each other the truth, I told vice president Pence that the possibility of military intervention should not be considered, neither in Colombia nor in Latin America”, Santos said.
