Angela Merkel officially launched the election campaign and the first electoral meeting chose to do so by a bastion of her opponents, Dortmund.
It is in this city, where the Social Democrats defeat the Christian Democrats, that German Chancellor began traveling meetings to demand the fourth term at the top of Europe's most powerful economy.
About 800 people were at the organised meeting in Dortmund, where Merkel spoke of the work done in the fight against unemployment and the objective of halving the unemployed for the next mandate.
Merkel called on the Christian Democrats to make an active election campaign.
We have to make people for ourselves, we have to fight, we have to commit to our issues”, Merkel said.
Meanwhile, Social Democrats have exacerbated the tones against the Chancellor. The head of their parliamentary group in Bundestag, Thomas Opperman, said Merkel's time is over. He said that for years, Angela Merkel has been enjoying the successes of economic reforms initiated by the last Social Democrat Chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder.
Despite the Social Democrats' accusations, so far polls speak of an obvious advantage of Angela Merkel in the face of Martin Schulz.
Germans will vote on September 24th. /ToopChannel/
