Afghan police have discovered a mass cemetery with the bodies of at least 36 people killed during a current militant attack in a village, officials have said today.
The governor's spokesman in the province of Sari Pul, Zbabibullah Amman, said there were 28 lifeless bodies in one cemetery and the other eight.
“The majority of the victims were beheaded”, Aman said, stressing that they were all males, including three boys between 8 and 15 years old.
Police forces are conducting research into more possible cemetery.
Some lifeless bodies are buried today.
The province's governor's office, Sari Pul, said at least 62 people were confirmed killed by the attack in the village of Mirzawaland last week, while the number of people killed could be increased.
The independent Commission for Human Rights in Afghanistan said the preliminary investigation has suggested militants from the Taliban group and extremists of the Islamic State, who are great enemies, had acted together this time.
But the Taliban said they carried out the attack alone and did not kill civilians.
The Islamic State in its statement on August 14th has claimed to have led the attack and killed nearly 54 Shiite Muslims, which is a minority group in Afghanistan, often subject to attacks by the extremist group, the Islamic State.
