In principle, the initiative for Kosovo's membership in INTERPOL has been adopted in today's Government Meeting.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Behar Selimi has said that this initiative for membership in this international organisation provides great opportunities for Kosovo's co-operation with other states, as well as helping prevent crime and combat various forms of criminality, Klan Kosova reports.
While at the same meeting, Foreign Affairs Minister Enver Hoxhaj has said all measures have been taken for Kosovo to have the support of member states for membership in INTERPOL at the General Assembly vote in September.
“We have taken all necessary measures to secure support from member states from 190 states, support from 110 states so that Kosovo can become an INTERPOL member”, Hoxhaj has said.
It has also shown Kosovo's benefits in the event membership takes place in this international organisation.
The most important thing would be the approach of the Kosovo Police to INTERPOL data and would have an opportunity for INTERPOL in the future not to be misused as misused by Serbia. There are many states that have not recognised Kosovo but have shown willingness to support membership”, Minister Hoxhaj has said.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Skender Hyseni has travelled to a working visit to America, where he will meet with permanent representatives of several UN member states with the focus of securing support for Kosovo's membership in INTERPOL.
