The blast occurred in the Ryhope area of the town of Sunderland and the photos presented below show the extent of the damage.
One local said the explosion looked “like a” bomb where the roof had all been thrown to the ground.
Local police services, firefighters and ambulances were at the scene, with a cordon set to keep the public out of this incident, British medium “Metro” reported, Periscopi broadcast.
Emergency services said they were unable to provide further details, including if someone was trapped in the ruins.
On Twitter, Northumbria Police said: “There is nothing so far to show that this case is linked to terrorism”./Periscopi/
