Former Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj has said Kosovo should join the United Nations at the end of dialogue with Belgrade.
In an interview for the newspaper, Vienna-Based Standard, he has said that Kosovo is in the final phase of forming the state, the Klan Kosova broadcasts.
Hoxhaj also thinks technical issues should no longer be discussed and that the dialogue sponsored by the European Union should come towards the last phase, where Kosovo should take its place in the United Nations, along with the “common recognition between Kosovo and Serbia”.
Without all this, dialogue is meaningless”, Hoxhaj said.
Hence, it should be limited, both in keeping and in time.
He has underlined that “there are places in the world that do not recognise the others, but that they do not block others from their membership in the UN.
“Kosovo and Serbia are “Present and common recognition, should be target”, Hoxhaj has added.
Serbia is refusing to recognise the unilateral declaration of independence in 2008, made by Albanians, as they say their southern province -- move which they consider a violation of their territorial integrity.
But according to Hoxhaj, as long as Serbia does not recognise Kosovo “the process of reconciliation between the two nations cannot be put into place”.
“President Alexander Vuciq is ready to act pragmaticly, I am surprised that both civil society and Church, which has played a bad role in the Kosovo conflict, are not at all willing to be the voice of reason even after 20 years”, Hoxhaj added.
Asked “if an agreement could be compared to what was once between the two Germanys”, he said it couldn't happen “because there can be no pattern, until any reality is divided”.
As with Foreign Minister Ivica Daciq's ideas about “demarkation” in Kosovo, Hoxhaj has said this “ “has always been on the table for Serbia ) but this “history has shown that it is wrong”.
“The borders in the Balkans are firm and those proposing changes regarding Kosovo are putting stability at risk. This could provoke a domino effect, and neither the EU nor the US would be willing to accept such solutions”, Hoxhaj has said.
