Hahn: No date to open Albania negotiations for membership

The European Union seems to be still far away for Albania. Brussels does not have a date to open to Albania negotiations on membership. That was confirmed yesterday by Commissioner for European Policy of Business and Negotiations for Enlargement Johannes Hahn at the conference with Rama after meeting the prime ministers of the Western Balkans in Durres. The six prime ministers of [...]
Albania at the Trieste Summit did not present any projects and subsequently won no funds from the EU, funds that went to Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. As for Albania, the chief language on the part of Commissioner Hahn became Albanian asylum seekers and the chance for opening negotiations for the country's integration. Eurocommissioner Hahn said he could not provide a date for opening negotiations for Albania. He stressed that the date will depend on the government, which takes the right steps in meeting EU requirements. I think it's in interest, so there's a positive recommendation.
Once again, I don't want to mention a fixed date because it also depends on political intelligence, which means taking the right step at the right time to present a report on the commission of member states to be accepted by member states at the right time. So it's important to be quality and not fast. So the priority gets quality, not speed. The goal of the end is to get the support of all member states to take it and the next step, the next step”, Hahn said.
Asylum seekers
The high number of asylum seekers is concern for European Union countries, Commissioner Hahn stressed yesterday. He stressed that some EU countries have been affected by asylum seekers, while ensuring that Albanians will not gain asylum. Some member states of the European Union are affected by asylum seekers, but these countries are familiar with the efforts made by Albanian authorities, which have begun to reduce these efforts to limit the number of asylum seekers, because I want to say and publicly would not be realistic to believe that anyone could receive asylum as an Albanian in the European Union.
Going to European Union countries seeking asylum is futile because you have diplomatic damage to your country as well. Therefore, we welcome Albania's efforts and authority to limit the number of asylum seekers, but also to curb anyone who thinks there is a chance of receiving asylum in the states of the European Union. Because otherwise it would indicate that the country has not yet matured for the EU, which is not true. However, work remains to be done”, the commissioner said. In this regard, meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama reacted. The government head said Albanians who want asylum in EU countries should be treated as people seeking jobs.
As for the Netherlands' report on Albania and its demand, still unofficially, to restore the visa regime for Albania, Rama said it is all political and media propaganda of EU countries to show Albanians by finger. “I want to say here about public opinion, which I refuse to accept the census of Albanians, whether they are asylum seekers, whether they commit crimes in the EU area, as a reason to point to Albania”, Rama said.
If there are criminals in Europe, they have all possible passports and every state has to deal with them as such, leading to justice, but identifying and promoting the ethnicity of criminals has nothing to do with the Europe we have and with the Europe we want. It is only related to political and media agendas in a Europe that undergoes a period of turmoil in relation to its future”, Rama added regarding the report that has Dutch authorities.
Basha: Rama, responsible for the Albanian exhibition
Opposition Chairman Lulzim Basha has reacted yesterday regarding the meeting that the prime ministers of Western Balkan countries held in Durres, where concern over the high number of Albanian citizens seeking asylum in the countries of the European Union was highlighted once again. “Albanians flee to save themselves and their children from poverty and ignorance; flee to escape drugs and crime since they invaded politics, now occupying the economy as a threat to everyone's property and life.
Albanians flee the country where the government systematically violates the disabled and vulnerable and favours and supports only criminals and predators. Rama himself is not a commentator, he is, in fact, the main responsibility for the mass ecstasy of Albanians, for power-covered crime and for Albania's drug-filled.
So the day is increasing the reports and European countries pointing to it and its government with the finger on cannabis and criminalisation of the country. Only united and determined to face evil can we change our governance and our lives. Albania has great potential for all, if it is well governed”, the opposition leader reacted.
