Official Customs data points to a strong growth trend at least since 2014, when imports registered the value of 94,000 kilograms.
Based on population statistics, the consumption of palm oil rose to as much as a pound [1 kg] per capita in 2016, from just 20 grams per capita estimated in 2000.
The fruit of palm oil has marked strong growth since 2006, dropping only a year in 2014.
Countries From Import
But what are the countries from which Albania imports palm oil. Official Customs data shows 38% of this product is imported from Malaysia and from Indonesia comes at least 36% of total. A lower weight occupys imports from Greece by 22 percent, and finally Italy has only 4 percent.
Global statistics show Malaysia and Indonesia accounted for about 90% of the global production of palm oil and exports, favoured by tropical rains.
For what use it
Palm oil and its fractions are known in a series of sectors. Various studies in the world have led to the conclusion that at least 50% of the items on market shelves are made up of palm oil or one of its fractions.
The list of sectors that use this product is long and starts from the fast food chain, cosmetics and self - care products, energy, animal food, pharmaceuticals, service industry and food industry.
