The International Migration Organisation (IOM) found 29 emigrants dead in Shabwa beach waters during a common patrol. The dead were buried by others who survived, the UN Migration Agency announced.
At least 22 immigrants remained missing, the Agency said. The average age of travelers was about 16.
The narrow waters between the horn of Africa and Yemen have been a common route for migrants who have attempted to enter oil-rich Gulf countries, British medium “Metro” reported, the Periscope broadcast.
The survivors told our colleagues on the beach that the smuggler pushed them into the sea when they saw police officials controlling the water bank”, said Laurent de Boeck, chief of the IOM mission in Yemen.
