Only 4 per cent women on Kosovo mayor's list

Of the more than 100 mayoral candidates for local elections this year, only 6 are women. Expressed to percentage, it would be only 4.4% of all the candidates' total number, writes “Koha Ditore” today.
Although the Law on Gender Equality was adopted in 2015, which envisions the biggest representation of women in decision-making political positions, this figure does not stand out at all with those of the preliminary municipal elections held before the entry into force of this law. In the 2009 municipal elections, the percentage of women on the mayoral candidates' lists was 5%, while in 2014 it was 4%.
Of all political subjects who have certified their candidates, the Democratic Party of Kosovo has nominated 3 women candidates, while the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Initiative for Kosovo, and the alternative by a woman candidate.
