Tens of thousands of supporters of the spiritual councillor, called Saint Dr. Ram Rahim Singh Yi Insan stones were gathered around the court in the town of Panccula.
The court handed over the guilty verdict Friday, which triggered the rebellion of supporters of the spiritual adviser.
Violent mobs set fire to government buildings and attacked journalists and police officers. The latter used tear gas and water to disperse crowds and had to finally shoot in the air with warning shots, trying to control the riots.
