During July alone, 16 people died as a result of traffic accidents, while dozens have been injured.
Muhamet Krasniqi, an expert on communications issues, told Free Europe Radio that institutions dealing with security problems led by the Road Traffic Insurance Council, which has a mandate for safety on the road, should eventually draft a clear strategy with concrete measures, with the goal of increasing road security and turning normal into road traffic in Kosovo.
According to official police reports, we see significant numbers of fatal accidents, and this is especially evident in July of this year. It is an alarming, disturbing situation”, Krasniqi said.
Although, as Krasniqi says, Kosovo's Road Security Forum has already been formed, according to him, concrete measures must be taken for reducing the number of accidents, through senbilisation in various forms.
We have formed the Kosovo Safety Forum on the Road, which includes all relevant institutions. We have good cooperation, but we need to focus on protecting citizens on the streets. Simply roads have turned into gladiatorial arenas, where every day we have the loss of people's lives as a result of various accidents in road traffic on all the streets of Kosovo”, Krasniqi said.
But, rule authorities say that during the summer season, referred to the statistics of accidents in domestic road traffic, as a result of the most intense circulation or indigestion of automotive executives, notes the largest number of accidents, unfortunately fatal ones.
Daut Hoxha, an information official at the Kosovo Police, says the month has been a month with the huge number of fatal accidents, where 16 people have so far lost their lives.
“During the summer season, in the function of better security management and control, especially road traffic, Kosovo Police have compiled an operational police plan that we have even distributed for implementation through all departments and police areas for implementation”.
The legal measures have been undertaken and will be undertaken consistently for all those who do not adhere to the rules in traffic”, Hoxha says.
July's “has been heavy, and so far 16 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents. Kosovo police, with its units across the country, are constantly undertaking and taking operational police measures, where even strict legal measures are envisioned and there will be zero tolerance towards all those who violate the rules in road traffic”, he adds further.
However, rule authorities say that only during June of this year, where even the statistics this month possess them, are the ticket for traffic offenders.
Otherwise, the new road traffic law since last year has come into force, until officials in this field have declared that in addition to the pronunciation of negative points, the penalties for violators of traffic regulations will be between 300 and 900 euros, and in certain cases with the driver's license.
