Following the signing of the Mmorandum of Understanding between the Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage in Prizren, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Kosovo Institute for Protection of Monuments, the project will soon begin implementing the restoration of mural paintings of the cathedral “Ministerial Zone” in Prizren.
The Catholic Church, “Ministerial Zone”, is located in Prizren's historic centre, which is a monument to the Cultural Heritage List for the Interim Protection and is one of Prizren's valuable assets for unique, historical, religious and aesthetic importance and values.
The mural paintings covering the cathedral ceiling are unique in Kosovo for the tradition of Western painting, which have been implemented by Austrian authors, where the poshau makes up a mosaic of values along with the cathedral's construction style.
Unfortunately, this monument of such great cultural value and an important religious object had long been inadequately treated, as a result of this brought damage both to architecture from outside and to its interview. Paintings have long been under the influence of many destructive factors, especially the effects of humidity, which has resulted in a chain of various layers of paintings.
So with this Capital Project being implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, which will be carried out on the part of the Consultative Council for Conservative and Restored Works, names known as Prof. Dr. Pirro Thomo, restorer of Byzantine and Postbizantine churches monuments in Albania, Prof. Dr. Frederik Stamati, the chemist's restorer near the Anthropological Research Centre in Tirana, Prof. Dr. Ferid Hudhri, a researcher at the Center for Albanology Studies in Tirana, as well as Zef Toshi, the Artist of the People, will be involved in cleaning up surfaces from dust and dirt, consolidating color, filling gaps, but also falling plasters from support, eliminating salts, stitching cracks, as well as restoring the surfaces of paintings.
