This initiative, which is organised by “Bloomberg Philanthropies”, <x2Hard Kennedy School “and <x4Hard Business School” is the world's first comprehensive effort to boost co-operation, recognition of instruments and exchange of best practices for running a more innovative and responsible local government, they report. It's about equipping city leaders with the knowledge needed to make progress in the most important policies for their cities and citizens.
Participants at this forum were some of the most successful mayors in the world who have brought dramatic changes in running their cities like: Muriel Bowser, Washington D. Mayor. C, USA; Hanna Gronkiewitz-Waltz, mayor of Warsaw, Poland; Remigius Simasius, mayor of Vilnius, Lithuania; Karin Wangörd, mayor of Stockholm, Sweden or even Roberto Cláudio, mayor of Buntaleza, Brazil.
The mayors discussed the challenges of management of local governance and the possibilities that exist for using innovative mechanisms that increase and facilitate service to citizens. In his discussion, Mayor Veliaj took note of a series of steps Tirana's City Hall has taken in terms of innovative initiatives, such as my “Tirana” or platform “Open Data”, where citizens can report on various problems, as well as receive information on a range of areas and services such as transportation, traffic, roads, taxes, tariffs.
Mayors and their staffs were able to recognise and benefit from different experiences, studies by better local government management experts and access to global policies in relation to local governance. Also, this initiative will enable municipal leaders to continue exchange and remote co-operation supported by Harvard University. In addition, the initiative in question enables participants to have continued access to development grants benefit from Bloomberg Philipthropie.
The participants also discussed the improvement of economic and social policies that could be followed for further development of cities, as well as for exploring opportunities that the development of technology to deal with future challenges. Special attention was also given to increased performance of local governments to explore new strategies to strengthen municipal organisational capacities.
