After Serbia suffered in six 20th century wars, it is not time to have another seven again with Kosovo, as it would be the end.
That is how Serbian academic Dusan Kovacevic thinks.
According to him, the purpose of any dialogue the politicians propose must be to prevent a new war.
One of the most prominent Serbian intellectuals has no dilemma over the issue of support for President Aleksandar Vuciq's proposal for a broad social dialogue on Kosovo.
He has said it is for this proposal to peacefully solve problems between Serbs and Albanians, broadcast news.net.
This proposal has been accepted from all sides. I remember the idea is old, but in the 20th century it changed direction. Since then this idea has been given because of wars, disagreements, and pressure from foreign powers. But this should be the last and the Albanian-Serbian dispute should be resolved by peaceful means”, Kovacevic has said.
Kovacevic has referred to his diplomatic experience since he served as ambassador to Portugal and Montenegro, he has added that Vuciqi's invitation for dialogue is international pressure.
Serbia is today without economic stability, without defined borders, which are open throughout the country. For me it is incomprehensible and the procrastinating process by people who have several chairs in Belgrade and call for Serbia's protection. They will not be willing to go to war but they will have to fight our children. The voices that have called for Serbia's defence have never fought and will never fight”, Kovacevic stressed.
He believes that with the proposal for social dialogue, Vucic will be a major winner, even though it is not seen in Serbia for the time being.
According to him, any long and repeat conversation promotes war and for these reasons if history with Kosovo lasts for 10 or 20 years will be a constant threat that overnight a war will start.
We had a war dividing Yugoslavia. Over 100 thousand killed and millions displaced. Well, what does one war need here for? Come and negotiate a wise change and protect our interests”.
