Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko has said that thanks to the last agreement with the IMF, Albania continued the growing pace of the economy and undertook a series of structural reforms.
He made these comments at the high-level conference “Resumption of convergence in Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe ʹ the role of governance and institutions”, organised by Croatia's National Bank and the International Monetary Fund (FMN) in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
During the conference, Governor Sejko also attended the discussion table, organised by International Monetary Fund General Director Christine Lagarde. At this table, the Albanian governor discussed the contribution the IMF has made to SEE countries for the realisation of reforms and the role the Fund has played in strengthening civil society.
“The IMF has played and continues to play an important role in the ECLJ region. IMF programmes and advice have been crucial to establishing the region on track, from transition to convergence. Furthermore, the IMF has continued to play the regulator's role whenever the countries of this region have faced economic and financial difficulties”, Sejko said.
As for the IMF's role in the future, the governor said this role could be more flexible and more efficient, contributing to strengthening the prevention of potential crises and achieving final goals.
