Moscow has recently stepped up pressure on Washington, demanding that the United States return two diplomatic headquarters on American territory, but that were confiscated late last year following a order issued by then President Barack Obama.
The first call has come from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who has indicated that the movement made by the past administration is a clear violation of the principles of international law, while calling property confiscation a <x0-year-old mid-day”.
He also warned that Russia would retaliate in the same way if the US did not consider its demands.
Last year, the Obama administration also decided on the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from the country, arguing that the latter were engaged in spying missions and had influenced the presidential elections.
Russian Foreign Minister has earlier proposed that Russia expel 35 American diplomats as counterages, so it is not yet known whether his idea will receive the final seal of President Vladimir Putin.
To discuss the possibility of restoring Russian diplomatic properties, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov has travelled to Washington, where he will be expected from his counterpart, US Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon.
