Albania's donations in weapons and ammunition and the prevention of terrorist attacks on the Albania-Israel match are highlighted as successes in the 2016 American State Department report in the fight against terrorism.
In addition to these and the exercises of anti-terrorism units and the creation of a national database with fingerprints at border points, the UN report puts emphasis on corruption and weak judicial system. According to the UN, efforts of the law enforcement organs in Albania are hampered by these two factors at all levels.
“Corruption combined with a weak judicial system continues to undermine the efforts of legislative organs in Albania at all levels. ”
WHAT IS SHOW IN RAPORT?
Albania has been a powerful supporter of anti-terrorism efforts in 2016 and continued its participation in the Global Coalition against I SIS, making important donations with weapons and ammunition.
On November 4th and 5th, a co-ordinated regional anti-terrorism operation led to the arrest of four individuals in Albania. The operation prevented a possible attack on the Albania-Israel match to be held in Shkodra on 12 July.
4 individuals charged with financial and logistical support of I SIS, recruiting people in the name of ISIS and promoting hate speech
Legal forces in Albania have stepped up efforts against possible terrorist threats
The Albanian State Police Anti-Terrorism Unit has worked with the US Department of Justice to identify the requirements for equipment and training. As a result, the anti-terrorism unit has developed its plans and programmes to improve equipment, training and development, and is renewing a new facility for the facility.
In collaboration with the EU and with the financing of the US State Department, I CITAP provided equipment and training for the Albanian government to build capacities to collect fingerprints data at all border points. Information can be checked on a national database for wanted persons.
