The trial of 14 people charged with plotting to bring down the Montenegrin government has been postponed for September.
Judge Susan Mugosa has made news of the postponement, as defence lawyers have filed several motions and have asked for more time to prepare.
Mugosa has said the trial will be postponed until September 6th “in order not to violate the protection party's right”.
This trial process has begun on 19 July, but has been interrupted due to the defence motion to replace the prosecutor.
State authorities in Montenegro claim that Russian and Serbian nationalists have attempted to take over parliament during the 2016 parliamentary elections, kill then Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, and install a leader who would undermine Montenegro's NATO membership.
The defendants include Andrija Mandici and Milan Knezevjqi, deputies from the Montenegrin opposition party Front Democratic Front, nine Serbian citizens, another Montenegrin and two Russians tried in absentia.
Montenegro has said that Russian state <x0horgans” have been involved in this event, but Russia denies those statements.
Montenegro has become 29th member NATO on June 5th, marking a historic turn towards the transatlantic alliance.
