The Pristina municipality on Monday has opened the central kitchen for preparing the food of pre-school institutions, with regard to more than 50 workers returning to previous jobs.
Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti said they have decided to return the central kitchen to the public institution, as well as to enable permanent labour contracts to older workers.
Offering quality food for children, according to Ahmeti, has also prompted private nests to require food from the central kitchen of public nests.
Ahmeti: The idea is to have as healthy food as possible for our children
So far we've got over 50 workers working for food. The reason why we prepare for nearly 3 thousand children in the Pristina municipality made our cost lower and we are always working with numbers to improve the quality of food. We have also cooperated with our parents. The idea is to have as healthy food as possible for our children”, Ahmeti said, adding that they will provide hot drinks for those in need.
Furthermore, the first of Pristina said the pending issue between central kitchen workers and the Ministry of Finance will be resolved as soon as possible. And to offer a better solution, he said they have made permanent work contracts for them.
Ahmeti: We will find solutions as soon as possible for workers
They already have permanent contracts until the final solution to this problem, which allows a little bit more comfort to kitchen workers... Naturally, kitchen workers don't have to deal with issues between the municipality and the Ministry, they worry about their workplace, worry about family issues with justice, and we've been trying that as little as we can get to the aid and I believe that very soon we will find solutions with the Ministry of Finance to make a permanent solution”, Pristina chairman said.
Chief cook Fatime Zogjani said she feels happy about what she said, only Pristina municipality has been supporting them since the post-war in Kosovo.
Zogiani: No one has ever supported us, and now they're all good.
It really mattered. We've had enough. We worked hard. We worked all over the basements, everywhere. And now, neither the previous government nor anyone, we've always worked without heat after the war. We've never had any heat, no vents. All we had was a disaster. And now it's all right”, she said.
Otherwise, this facility has been out of operation because the previous administration had decided to privatise the food service for nests, while the winning company has used another object.
