NASA warns to prepare for the general eclipse of the sun in August. More than that, by the end of July, meteor rains are predicted.
Solar eclipses occur when the new moon passes between the earth and the sun. A total solar eclipse occurs when the new moon is in the right position to cover the sun's disk completely.
This is expected to happen next month on 21 August, when the new moon completely blocks the sun, and this is expected to be seen by Oregon in South Carolina.
Two weeks before or after a solar eclipse, there are often, but not always, a lunar eclipse. This is because the full moon, the earth and the sun, will line up in a straight line.
The new moon begins on July 23rd and passes through its stages until it gives us the total eclipse in August.
