Koci says Lushtak belongs to compensation

Arianian Koci, Sami Lushtaku's lawyer, said that the mayor of Skyeraj after being released from prison is responsible for the time he spent behind bars.

A day after the Supreme Court of Kosovo said its final word in the trial, where Sami Lushtaku was accused of war crimes, his lawyer, Arian Koci, says Lushtak must repay the suffering that caused him.

Lushtaku, who was arrested in May 2013 until July 3rd when the Supreme Court of Kosovo granted him innocence, had spent much of that time in custody.
Under criminal legislation in Kosovo, the right to compensate for indictees who have remained in house arrest, detention or have gone to the suffering of punishment and have later been declared innocent.

Lushtaku's lawyer, Arian Koci, in a campaign for Calxo. com, although claiming that Lushtak cannot compensate for the 4 years lost, says the mayor of Skyeraj is entitled to compensation.

It's very difficult to be innocent and accused of false evidence. However, legal compensation for the suffering caused by this unfair prosecution belongs to Sami Lushtak. We haven't talked to Sami yet, because we've had other priorities, but compensation for the damage caused by morals and material belongs to Mr. Lushtaku”, Koci said.
Skyeraj Mayor Sami Lushtaku was sentenced by the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica in May 2015 to 12 years in prison for the murder charge.

Lushtaku's defense had complained at the Court of Appeals, which had freed him from the murder charge and sentenced him to 7 years in prison for command responsibility.
The Supreme Court released Lushtak two days ago. But even though it was released from the judicial process known as “Drenica 1”, Lushtaku is still charged in two other separate court processes.
