Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been released on parole from prison, having spent 16 months on charges of corruption and others.
His release was made today after a parole board found that he must be released for good conduct, since he spent 16 months in prison, on a general sentence of 27 months.
Mr. Olmert did not speak to reporters after he was released from Masijah Prison, near the capital, Tel Aviv.
Ehud Olmert, 71, who was prime minister in the 2006 period 2009, was among the 8 former officials and businessmen sentenced in March 2014, in a case of real estate-rich corruption.
In September 2016 he was sentenced to eight months in additional prison, on charges of having received an envelope filled with cash from an American businessman in exchange for political gain during his term as mayor of the city of Jerusalem, in 1993 HINA 2003.
Ehud Olmert has always indicated himself innocent, while the charges against him have deemed them to be the brutal and ruthless witchage”.
