Interpol this year has accepted Kosovo's application for membership in this organisation, bringing it into the agenda along with three other states, Home Affairs Minister Skender Hyseni has said.
He in a proposal for Indexline, has stressed that the introduction to the agenda of Kosovo's application for admission to Interpol is a big step, but does not mean that this accession could happen with automatism.
Kosovo has applied for membership two years ago, and this year appears to be Kosovo's application for membership to be introduced into the agenda. But the move does not mean acceptance by automatism because three other states have applied between them and Palestine, respectively, and this could hinder Kosovo's membership in this organisation”, Hyseni has said.
Whatever the Kosovo institutions, according to the interior minister, are making all preparations and doing everything in their chances of this membership happening as soon as possible.
He has said the issue of Interpol membership is complex and cannot be considered as guaranteed.
It is very important that Kosovo police have access to Interpol data, but it is also Interpol's interest to exchange information with the Republic of Kosovo. So in this case both sides would benefit from Kosovo's membership in Interpol”, Hyseni has said.
