. The agreement is a new important page in relations between the two countries, but after the signing, much more work remains to be completed, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva said in an interview for Bulgarian Television.
The agreement will be signed in Macedonian language under the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia and in the Bulgarian language under the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria”, Zaharieva emphasises.
It stressed that the agreement is based on the declaration signed in 1999, while the difference, as it stressed, is that mechanisms for pursuing their implementation are being built, there will be commissions of experts from historians and social workers who will work on improving school programmes based on legitimate historical resources.
Regarding the demands of some Macedonian opposition parties to accept the existence of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria, Zaharieva says authorities in Sofia do not conduct negotiations with parties, but with Government.
“in Skopje must decide whether they will continue to be isolated for 11 more years from their neighbours and the world, becoming too big, or wanting European perspective and development”, Zaharieva said.
Ekaterina Zaharieeva warned that the good neighbourly agreement with Macedonia will be reviewed by the Bulgarian government next week, while waiting to sign the prime ministers of the two countries, Boyko Borisov and Zoran Zaev, on August 2nd in Skopje.
