European Commission President Jean-claudide Juncker has strongly attacked members of the European Parliament for not participating in a session held today.
Standing in the almost empty Partlament hall in Strasbourg, Juncker has called it ridiculous, totally ridiculous, parliament, broadcasting Express.
Praising that only about 30 MPs were present, he has said it testifies that parliament is not serious. But he has been strongly reacted to by parliament's president, Antonio Tayan, accusing him of disrespect.
“You can criticise parliament, but it is not the commission's job to control parliament, it is parliament that should control the commission,”, he has said.
The fight between them has continued. Juncker, who heads the EU executive body, aggressively rebuked European lawmakers for failing to participate in the session, which was held to review the chairmanship of the six-month EU presidency by Malta, the EU's smallest member.
That was one of the bitterest public disagreements among EU officials in recent years.
